PRESTON MOSQUE

Our proposal imagines the site as an enclosed compound with a modest yet bold landmark rooted in tradition as a unifying place of worship and community at its centre.

The raised ground and the spiral movement upwards and inwards create a journey from the everyday towards the sacred and profound. Archaic Islamic forms and courtyard structures inform the design of the mosque. Together with its landscape - mixing formal spaces on the south side of the site with contemplative gardens and wild planting on the north - the site will be a place for meeting and hospitality while celebrating God’s creation in nature.

The emblematic architecture is proposing a strong identity for a new community in its first step outside Preston.
